Sherwood ES is currently 30% over capacity with 7 portable classrooms. Sherwood ES reached 30% overcapacity 4 years earlier than MCPS predicted.
On 11/29/07, MCPS proposed funding the Sherwood ES addition in the upcoming budget. The Board of Education included the Sherwood ES addition in its recommended budget, but for Sherwood ES to get the addition, the County Council must include the addition in the six-year school construction plan (vote scheduled in May, 2008).
What can YOU do to help?PLEASE call, email, or write the County Council to support the Sherwood ES addition for the safety and well-being of our kids!
April - May, 2008 - Ask the County Council to fund the Sherwood ES addition in the FY09, 10 and 11 Capital Budgets and the FY09-14 Capital Improvements Program. The County budgets will be tight over the next few years, but school construction will still occur. We need to communicate the need to have architectural planning money included in the 2009 budget and construction costs in the 2010 and 2011 budgets. Last year, support for the Sherwood Elementary addition caught the attention of the Board of Education and Montgomery County Public Schools. But we need to actually get the addition funding ratified this year. We can't back down now. Let MCPS, the Board of Education, and the County Council know Sherwood Elementary NEEDS the addition NOW!
